Workshop: “How to Succeed with Your Interdisciplinary Thesis”

Are you a doctoral student working on an interdisciplinary dissertation?

Vocabularies that don’t overlap, methods that are difficult to articulate, differing expectations across disciplines… Bringing different forms of knowledge into dialogue is no easy task. On October 19, the ExposUM Institute invites you to a morning session to reflect together, in a supportive environment, on the conditions for success in an interdisciplinary dissertation: anticipating challenges and developing a research approach that fosters interdisciplinarity or supports it.

Researchers, doctoral students, and experienced facilitators will share their experiences and provide you with collective intelligence tools to pool your questions and brainstorm possible courses of action with your peers.

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
✅ describe your research approach in relation to that of your colleagues;
✅ identify questions you share with other doctoral students;
✅ envision changes in practice for your daily professional life;
✅ identify concrete actions to promote interdisciplinary work.

Open to doctoral students from all doctoral schools at the University of Montpellier. This course counts toward 4 hours of training with the UM Doctoral College.

Speakers: Christian Ducrot, research director in animal health at INRAE; Aurélie Binot, director of the Interfaces research track at ExposUM; Alexandre Guichardaz, research engineer at IRD and collective intelligence facilitator; Baptiste Parillaud, support officer for the Interfaces research track at ExposUM.
